Six police officers were slain when a military council’s Waboetaw checkpoint on the Hpa-an-Thaton road in Hpa-an Township, Karen State, was attacked, according to KNU Brigade 1 Thaton District officials.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and a PDF joint team arrived in a car and attacked the checkpoint on the morning of April 19.
Six policemen were killed and several weapons, including an AK-47, were seized in the attack on a military checkpoint, the KNU Brigade 1 Thaton District Chairman Pado Saw Soe Myint told the Than Lwin Times.
The 22nd Division of the military council has been providing security in five vehicles since the attack on the military council checkpoint and the pedestrians were also searched.
The Waboetaw checkpoint is at the junction of the Hpa-an - Thaton road and the Hpa-an - Hpapun highway under the KNU Brigade 1 area.
Military checkpoints in areas held by the KNU Brigade 1 have been raided repeatedly by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the PDF coalition.
