Dhaka: Burma's naval chief, Vice Admiral Nyan Tun, has arrived in Bangladesh to increase military ties between the two neighboring countries, according to a Bangladesh official report.

Navy Chief Nyan Tun is the third-highest military official to visit Bangladesh in a year since Burmese Deputy Chief Lt. General Soe Win visited in the third week of November, and Chief Lt. General Myat Hein visited the country in the last week of April this year.

According to the report, the visiting Commander-in-Chief of the Burmese navy, Vice Admiral Nyan Tun, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaba in Dhaka on Monday.

During the meeting, he told the Bangladesh prime minister that his country wants to resolve land and maritime disputes with Bangladesh bilaterally through discussions.

The Prime Minister and the Navy Chief discussed various issues relating to both countries' interests, said the report.

The Burma Navy Chief also met yesterday with Z U Ahmed, Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Navy, at Naval headquarters in Dhaka . He had a number of meetings yesterday with Bangladesh counterparts from the army, air force, and navy, source said.

He is also expected to visit many military institutions during his visit in Bangladesh.
