Aung Naing Win, A Retired Army Philanthropist, Shot Dead

Aung Naing Win, a retired army philanthropist from Ye Township, Mon State, was shot dead on February 9.

According toa source close to Aung Naing Win, he was doing charity work at the free clinic of missionary Ko Yin Lay Sayadaw in Ye, where he was killed while having a morning tea.

"He was overseeing the construction of a nursing home at Korin Lay School. At the time of the shooting he was drinking tea.  He was pronounced dead at around 8am . Ko Yin Lay will lead the funeral today," reported the local source.

Aung Naing Win, was the Secretary for more than two years with the Ye Township Dhamma School Foundation, which was established in 2013.

A previous violent incident occurred, on May 14, 2021, when a grenade was hurled at Aung Naing Win's house located in the Aung Thu ward.  He was seriously injured by the grenade blast and had a long recovery period.
