“The Chin National Front (CNF) will fight against all its enemies on behalf of Chin nationals and for Chinland,” said Colonel Solomon, of the Chin National Army (CNA). He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 21st basic military training course on November 22. The CNF has been fighting Burmese governments for two decades. The organization says that resorting to arms was the only way to protect its population.
The closing ceremony was attended by CNF party leaders, by divisional commanders and by other officers. The ceremony also included a competition in small weapons handling and shooting.
The Chin National Front (CNF) operates from secret military camps situated on the Indo-Burma border areas. This follows the destruction of its central military headquarters by the Burmese Army through pressure from India,
CNF sources say the organization has increased in popularity since the 2010 general elections were held in Burma, adding support came not only from Chin State but also from Chin nationals living abroad.
“The Chin National Front is born from the people and the participation of the people is what is most important,” said an organization spokesperson.
The Chin National Front is allied with the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), the Karen National Union (KNU), the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), the New Mon State Party (NMSP), the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP), the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), the Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF), the Arakan National Council (ANC), the Lahu Democratic United (LDC), and the Wa National Organization (WNO).
