Two people arrested as human shield in Shwe Pyi Aye village, Phaikhun township, Southern Shan State, have passed away.
On 29 October 2021, Myanmar junta soldiers abducted 19 people to use as human shields from Shwe Pyi Aye village, Phaikhun township. Among them, the 67 years old U Mg Yo and the 49 years old U Soe Tint were tortured to death.
“They are old, but they did not die from Covid-19. They have been beaten and sustained injuries. They succumbed to the tortures and wounds, but did not know where and when they died. We got the information on 20 December 2021,” a man who lives in Shwe Pyi Aye village told SHAN.
Even though the arrested 19 people are currently detained at Taunggyi No. 1 Police Station, there is no information about the two death men.
“No report about when and where did the two die. The group (19 people) was in the Phaikhun jungle, and moved to a local intelligence office, then transferred to Taunggyi police station. We cannot confirm the date and time of their death. The rest are now kept at Taunggyi No.1 Police Station,” the local man added.
The military junta arrested those people to use as human shields and accused them of the nation rebellion.
Those people are civilians who are physically vulnerable to escape and are left behind to guard the village.
