Dhaka:  A Bangladesh armed forces team will fly to Burma today with relief material donated by the Bangladesh government for victims of cyclone Nargis, said an official press report.

The team comprises of 20 members and will be led by Brigadier General Taslim Uddin Khan, the Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate said in a statement on Tuesday.

The team will hand over the humanitarian aid to Burma on behalf of the Bangladesh government and will also assist Burma in rescue operations.

The relief material to be carried by a TC-130 cargo plane includes potatoes, medicines, oral saline, water-purifying tablets, saris, Burmese thamis, longyis, trousers, towels, and covers.

The aid is being sent to Burma by Bangladesh after the Burmese authorities requested for international assistance after the cyclone hit the country on May 3.

The Burmese military government on Tuesday announced via the state-run media that the death toll has increased to nearly 22,500, with a further 41,000 missing in the aftermath of the cyclone.
