Guard collects money to enter MSF clinic

Ukhiya, Bangladesh: The guard of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) clinic is collecting money from unregistered refugees recently while the refugee want to enter clinic for treatment, said a refugee from Kutupalong makeshift camp.

“The guard collects money 50 taka from refugees to enter the clinic and to see the doctor quickly.”

The guard has been identified as Kabir (35), who is a local people from Kutupalong under Ukhiya police station.

Kabir gives priority the patients who are able to give 50 taka. If anyone can’t pay money to him, he will be waiting for a long times to see the duty doctor, according to sources.

“We got proper treatment two years ago from MSF, but now we are facing difficulty to get treatment as the MSF give priority to the local people and refugee are at last. Sometimes the refugees back to their shacks with empty hand. There is going discriminated by local doctors and guards,” said an elder from the camp.

Beside, refugees have been facing with several topical diseases as malaria, fever, diarrhea, Tuberculosis (TB), jaundice and etc in the camp. But, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) gives only basic treatment to the unofficial refugees and local people.

An elder said from the camp, whenever foreigners or donors visit or check in the clinic, local doctors and guards  are pertaining like good service between refugees and local in the clinic and that time the refugees are able to see the duty doctors easily.
