Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – A seasoned civil engineer has been appointed as Transport and Construction Minister in Chin State on Thursday.

MizzimaNgun San Aung, 58, who retired as state chief engineer of construction under the central government Construction Ministry on September 13, 2011, was appointed by the Chin State legislative assembly. He is not a member of any political party.

The state’s chief minister nominated him, President Thein Sein confirmed him to the post, and the legislative assembly now meeting in Hakha unanimously accepted him the post.

“We are more satisfied with this appointment than the previous one, but it will depend on how much he is willing to do in this job,” Chin National Party (NCP) legislator Zo Zam told Mizzima.

“The most important thing in Chin State is road transportation. This will get better only if a person who is adept in this work approaches it energetically. He must do this work willingly and relentlessly,” he said.

Chin Progressive Party (CPP) chairman Noe Thang Kup said, “We prefer an elected legislator in this post who is loyal to the country and spent electoral expenses from his own pocket. There are nine ministers in the Chin State government. But there is no one from Falam so we wanted someone from Falam in this post, but now it has been approved and confirmed and we have to cooperate with him.”

The state chief minister transferred former Transport and Construction Minister Cing Lan Pau, 60, to the Industry and Electrical Power portfolio. He is a member of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).

The CNP moved a motion to expand the Environment Preservation Ministry in the state cabinet during the first regular session of state legislative assembly, but the chief minister tabled the motion.

Presently, there are nine cabinet posts in the Chin State government.
