A fundraising campaign for the Chin Education Network (CEN), will be held with a stage show by Burmese popular singers in Rangoon, former capital of Burma on 17 September.

Miss. Emily, Secretary of CEN told Khonumthung that the stage show will be held for fundraising to open a “Learning Center” in Kalemyo, Sagaing division, Burma where most Chin students study.

“We had planned to open a learning center in Rangoon before, but most Chin students were not willing to attend. So, we decided to open the center in Kalemyo for Chin students who can join our program easily,” said the CEN secretary.

English speaking course, Basic Social Science and other suitable lessons will be taught in the center. The group will also be conducting educational courses for youths and human rights awareness training in remote areas of Chin state, said Miss Emily.

The participating singers were listed as Sung Tin Par, Chaw Suh Khin, Sangpi, Kyokyia, Cindy, NKaiya, Zamnu, Vandawkcin, Linlin, L.Lun War, Phyu phyu Kyaw Thein, Chit Thu Wei, J-Me, Hute, Khuppi, Sawbuar. Other Burmese popular artists will perform with the DORCON band in the stage show in Lion city of Kamayut township, Rangoon.

The performers will be Chin singer’s and the tickets are being sold at 4,000 and 10,000 Kyats, said an organizer of the CEN stage show.
CEN’s internet website says that the group was founded in Rangoon in March, 2010 by Chin youths committed to and interested in post-secondary education and the development of Chin people. Founding members include students, NGO workers, educational advisors, teachers and social activists based in Rangoon. – Khonumthung News
