Due to the clash between the Karenni People's Defense Forces (KPDF) and the Military Junta Council troop in Demoso Township in Karenni State, the people from urban and rural areas have fled to safer places and the babies between infants and the age of one year are mostly getting sick and in need of medicine there.
“I especially want to talk about children. Babies suffer from asthma. They suffer vomiting and diarrhea also. Even the electrolyte powder, we do not have enough. We do not have even the thermometer. We were in a hurry and did not bring anything. For the time being, there is nothing on this site”, said a local resident from the fleeing place.
Due to the hasty fleeing from the conflict, refugees are experiencing sick, cough/running nose, asthma, gastrointestinal diseases such as vomiting and diarrhea, and simple diarrhea because there is no necessary medicine, as well as drinking water, is scarce.
Not only babies do not stay warm, but necessary medical treatment has not yet been provided also only using the limited medications.
“There is no medicine. It's almost non-existent. In a nearby village, they share some amount of medicine as they carry. There are cases of not matching with ulcer and medicine. Since they are young babies, they need special medicine that produces for the babies. There is no such thing. From the adults’ medicine, for example, we have to cut the paracetamol pill in half and give the babies. That's it. There are very few medicines currently”, he said.
Refugees need donors for the requirement of the accommodations, shelters, blankets, mats, drinking water, and medications as not enough as food sufficiently.
"As a result of the fighting, some people were fleeing without food. There is a place to sleep. But there are needs for the shelters. When there are no shelters, it is not comfortable to stay. And some children are in trouble while fleeing. They also need medicine. Some are in terrible situations. Now, there is not enough medical treatment here. There are only four-five pills of paracetamol. There is only one for each medicine and a bottle of spirit. They are not enough. In the current situation, medicine is not enough”, said a refugee relief assistant.
Nearly 2,000 people from more than 20 villages in Demoso Township were fleeing there and most of them are elders and children under the age of 10, along with fleeing to random places due to the lack of a specific refugee camp.
Starting from May 21, the clash between the Karenni People's Defense Force (KPDF) and the Military Junta Council is taking place in Loikaw Township, the Shan-Kayah border, and the southern Shan State, some religious buildings and homes were destroyed by the fire and more than 50,000 people have been displaced due to the artillery shelling by the Military Council.
