Military Council arrested 8 local volunteers who are working at the funeral home in Marnar Palawt Ward in Demoso Township, Kayah State, and 5 youths who live in 6 Mile Model Village, Kayaw area according to the locals.
The Military Council arrested 8 local residents who were volunteering at the funeral home in Marnar Palawt Ward at around 10 AM today.
"There is a funeral in the Marnar Palawt Ward, thus the local residents who live at the ward are going to volunteer. At the time of the guests returning after hearing the gunshots, they were arrested”, a local confirmed to Kantarawaddy Times.
At around 8:13 this morning (May 20), the Military Council fired about 15 guns at the crossroad of Dawn Ngan Kha in Demawso as well.
Though the eight detainees were taken by prisoner transport truck, local residents said it was not yet known where they were taken.
Likewise, Military Council continued to make arrests for 5 youths around 3 PM who live in 6 Mile Model Village, Kayaw area, Demoso Township.
"The door was locked and they were inside the house. The Military came and opened by kicking the doors and arrested them. One of the detainees was a leader of the protest. I think the rest were villagers," said a local resident.
About five Military trucks and about 100 police and soldiers marched around the village and arrest them by smashing the doors of their homes, however, they did not fire guns.
The military council is currently stationed at the 6 Mile Model Basic High School due to an eyewitness.
