Negotiating to release 74 detained young people: KNN secretary

U Daniel, the Secretary 2 of KNPP told that the process of negotiation to release 74 youths, who were arrested by the Military troop after the capacity building training, is underway to the Kantarawaddy News.

 

The 74 youths were arrested at the tollgate of Hpruso Township in Kayah State on April 30 and five of them were under the age of 18, according to the statement.

 

Regarding the release of the detained youths, KNPP Secretary (2) said, “According to the law, there is no right to arrest people. They must be released. We heard that they were inspecting it. Some should be released”.

 

The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) issued a statement on May 9 to release the detained youths immediately.

 

Among the 74 detainees, 69 are being arrested in Loikaw Prison, while five who are under the age of 18 are being held separately according to the statement.
