“The victim is identified as Kafayet Ullah (15), son of Fatan Ali, who hails from Thay Chaung (Balu Khali) Village under the Powet Chaung village tract of Maungdaw Township. He is a student of class VI.”

“There has been a Buddhist temple in Thay Chaung village for seven years, nearby where the father of the victim has been working in the fields growing paddy. The son Kafayet Ullah helps his father. The temple is established at the eastern side of Thay Chaung village. In the nearby forest of the temple, there is a big beehive on a tree. One day, the monk of the temple went to see the beehive, but the monk did not see any bees in the beehive. So the monk thinks that the bees were driven out by the son of Fatan Ali throwing stones.”

As a result, the next day, on August 7, the monk of the said Buddhist temple went to the Nasaka Area No. 5 and told that Kafayet Ullah, son of Fatan Ali, drove bees from the beehive by throwing stones. Therefore, a group Nasaka officers went to the paddy field where the father and son were working in the field, said a local trader.

Kafayet Ullah was arrested by the Nasaka and tortured severely in front of his father. He was brought to the Nasaka camp where he is still being detained.

A village elder from the locality said, “It is not confirmed that the bees of the beehive were driven out by Kafayet Ullah as the monk did not see him driving out the bees. Sometimes bees automatically fly away after taking one week or some days resting at a host tree.

“Maybe it is true that the boy drove the bees from the beehive, because it is the nature of boys when they see a beehive, they want to know what would happen after throwing stones, like Edison,” said a schoolteacher who asked not to be named.

“It is not confirmed whether the boy could be released after paying money or not,” said a youth from the locality.
