12 April 2011: Nine ministers have been appointed by the new States and Divisions government of Burma, but one more minister needs to be appointed in the Chin state ministry.
Some politicians in Chin state expected Mr. Kui Thang of the USDP of Kanpalet township No. 1 constituency to be appointed as Education and Health sectors in the Chin ministry.
Mr. Kui Thang was expelled as a temporary measure after a complaint to the President of Chin state government on the minimum age requirement.
With a post vacant in ministry of the Chin state government, Mr Kui Thang is being kept in reserve by Mr. Hung Ngai, Prime Minister of Chin state for appointment after he attains the age of 35, said Mr. Van Lian, Chairman of the Chin state National League for Democracy.
Others states and divisions ministers were appointed in the Education and Health sectors except in Chin, Kayah state and Pegu division.
“Mr. Kui Thang was disqualified after the Chin Progressive Party and Chin National Party complained that he needs 17 days more to attain the age of 35. I don’t know whether the Education and Health Ministries can be handled by Dr Ba Muang, Social Minister or will be reserved for Mr. Kui Thang,” said Mr. Van Lian.
Some observers felt that Chin, Kayah state and Pegu division’s Education and Health sectors will be directly handled by the central government.
“It is very difficult to predict how this matter will be resolved. In the state constitution, nine ministers will be appointed for a state or division. But now only eight ministers have been appointed,” said Mr. Sein Thun, Secretary of the Chin Progressive Party.
The eight ministries of Chin state are, (1) Security and Border (2) Finance and Planning (3) Economics (4) Agriculture (5) Energy, Electricity, Mining and Forest (6) Transport, Communication and Construction (7) Social (8) Administrative and Industry.- Khonumthung News
