In addition, UNHCR Bangladesh-based delegate Caridi Rui, WFP Bangladesh-based head Crestardar, UNHCR Protection Officer Orzenzen, RRRC Officer Firuz Salauddin, and other local officers met the delegation at the camp.

“Later, at 12 noon, they went again to Zadi Mora Village of Teknaf Union (village tract) to visit a primary school which is being supported by a Guadak NGO backed by them. After arrival there, they met with local people and asked them about the education of the children, whether it is good or bad. They also distributed books and bags to the students.

“After that, at about 3:30 p.m., they went to Kutupalong Official Camp to observe the situation of the camp. When they met with refugees, they urged durable solutions, but the delegation listened to them and did not reply to questions,” said another refugee from the camp.

kutupalongcamp'When a reporter of Desh-Bangladesh asked the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Giyas Uddin Ahmed about the fate of the refugees, he said that repatriation is the best solution as Burma is now a democratic country and the situation is changed.

“We hope the government will accept the refugees. Earlier, the Burmese government had already scrutinized and promised to accept 10,000 refugees,” said a refugee elder who prefers not to be named.

Regarding the DC’s reply, a refugee leader said, “In fact, DC’s statement is true. But the situation in Burma is changing from bad to worse.”

A UNHCR representative said that if the refugees will get citizenship rights or the political situation is favorable for them, they will be sent to Burma. It is good if Burma receives the refugees. If so, we will also help the repatriation process, said a refugee from the camp.

The delegation left the camp at about 4:30 p.m.
