Than Htike Aung — House of Nationalities (upper house) MP from Sagaing Region constituency (5) Ye Htut asked a question in parliament if there is any plan to raise the current meager sum of nearly 2.9 million kyats annually for ground rent of nearly 8,000 acres of land where the Letpadaung copper mine project was being implemented as the state suffered huge financial loss.

MP Ye Htut raised this question regarding Letpadaung copper mine project at 15th day regular session of second parliament convened on March 6.

Deputy Minister of Ministry of Defence Maj. Gen. Myint Nwe came and answered this question but he did not give direct and precise answer on the raising of the current ground rent being paid but he said only that they were paying this rent regularly at the rate prescribed by the union government.
