New Delhi (Mizzima) – In a bow to the importance of timely, accurate weather information, Burma has launched a new weather website that aims to publish forecasts, reports and weather warnings.
he website, put together by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, is made up of topics including: Forecast, Warnings, Bulletins, News, Satellite Images, Natural Disasters and Public Education, plus a glossary of weather terminology.
An official told Mizzima that the department wants the public to become more familiar with weather-related terms
On a previous weather website managed by another department, there wasn’t enough space to include all the information found on the new site.
‘Now, we run our own website, so we have enough space to publish weather-related articles about our department and public education pages’, director Chit Kyaw told Mizzima.
He said the department will try to publish timely weather reports and warnings. If the Internet is down, the department will ask for help from the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs, he said.
Recently, to access timely weather reports, many people in Burma used a website, ‘Myanmar Climate Change Watch’, published by Dr. Tun Lwin, a former director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
