Natural gas rakes in USD 2.7 billion for Burma
Notwithstanding, the economic sanctions imposed on Burma for its human rights violation record, the country raked in USD 2.7 billion from the sale of natural gas last year.
Notwithstanding, the economic sanctions imposed on Burma for its human rights violation record, the country raked in USD 2.7 billion from the sale of natural gas last year.
Government statistics reveal that the trade volume of Burma touched a record high at USD 8.7 billion.
But the trade deficit was USD 3.1 billion in foreign trade since the export value was 2.8 billion and the import value was USD 5.9 billion last year.
Sale of natural gas earned 2.7 billion USD and was 45 per cent of the total export value. The major gas trading partner was Thailand.
Other export items were agricultural produce which fetched USD 572 million, gemstones USD 561 million and fishery products USD 366 million.
The major import items were fuel which cost USD 471 million, textile USD 276 million, palm oil USD 251 million, machinery USD 243 million and vehicles USD 197 million.
