Four passengers were killed and about 30 injured in an accident on the No. 2 Indo-Burma Trade Road of Tedim Township in Chin State, Burma, on Thursday.

Car_Accident_10The accident occurred near the village of Lamzang, Tedim Township. The passengers were traveling in a Diana vehicle heading for Rih Sub-township of Falam Town on the Indo-Burma border. The vehicle was overloaded with about 30 excess passengers.

Vung San Cing and Nau Dam Peek both died on the spot, while Nang Khan Lian died while being transported to Tedim Hospital. Thawng Kho Pau died after being admitted to the hospital, said a local.

Seven of the injured passengers are being treated in Tedim Civil Hospital, while victims with more serious injuries were transferred to Kalaymyo in a route bus by the authorities on the day of the accident.

It has been learnt that most of passengers were from the Tahan Block of Kalaymyo, Sagaing Division.

The Diana route bus lost control because it was overloaded. The owner of the bus was identified as Ka Khai from Lai Tui Village of Tedim Township, said a local.

Similarly, in a route bus accident near Lai Tui village, one person was killed and four others were injured on 2 March.

In addition, 16 persons died in Tedim Township late last year in a bus accident. Travelers on the No. 2 Indo-Burma Road are being killed in traffic accidents despite continued assistance from the Indian government to maintain a transport and trade link with Burma.
