Six rebels of the Naga armed group NSCN(K) have been sued under Section 17 (1) of the Unlawful Associations Act, said the North Western Command’s Information Officer Colonel Than Naing. Some of the detained rebels have the rank of Major.
The lawsuit was filed at the Hkamti Myoma Police Station on May 16.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the rebels cooperated with Assam Khasi armed groups in some military issues, and that is why the lawsuit was filed, according to the Information Department of the North Western Command.
“They were arrested since a long time. The lawsuit was filed yesterday,” Colonel Than Naing told Mizzima on 17 May.
The six rebels were arrested while the Tatmadaw (Myanmar military) was launching a crackdown on the headquarters of the NSCN(K) near Tagar village in Nanyun township in Naga area. In addition to the six rebels, other five rebel leaders were also arrested by the Tatmadaw in Hkamti.
They belong to northeast-based separatist groups.
Fighting has reportedly broken out between the Myanmar military and the NSCN (K) in Lahae Township since May 16. But the Myanmar military has not officially spoken about the issue.
