Sai Hla Pe beat out Union parliamentarian Sai Hpoe Myat and state parliamentarian Sai Kyaw Thein for the role.
Current chair of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) party in northern Shan State’s Muse Township Sai Hla Pe—also known as Lon Hsur Yum—was re-elected to continue his position through 2019.
Party members in Muse voted in Tat Nai Hpoung hall in Taw Ywar Ward from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
“It was the annual election for a new township chairperson for our party. Lon Hsur Yum talked about the structure of the party,” Sai Myat, a youth member of the SNLD told SHAN.
The latter two candidates “invited local people to come and study parliament,” Sai Myat said. “They said they would cooperate with people to overcome difficulties.”
The vice chairperson for 2019 will be Sai Lao Seng, the secretary will be Sai Thein Myint, and associate secretary will be Nang Thein Kyi.
There were reportedly more than 170 SNLD members who participated in the party election.
