The gunfire came from nearby clashes, although it is unknown which armed groups were fighting at the time the 25-year-old man was hit.

A local man was injured by gunfire in Namlan sub-township of Hsipaw Township in northern Shan State on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Nam Maw Lon village, west of Ner Makhaw. The victim, 25-year-old Sai Kar Lane is from Mang Mai village in Kon Hser village tract, and was hit in the neck, but the injury was not critical, according to eyewitnesses.

He is among four civilians injured in clashes in Namlan, although it was unknown which armed group fired the shot that hit Sai Kar Lane, or which groups were fighting at the time. The Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army, the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army, and the Burma Army are all active in the area.

“He got gunshot injuries yesterday. We picked him up at around 6:00 a.m. today,” Ko Zaw Nyi Nyi—who works with the Dear Ranger volunteer group—told SHAN on Wednesday. “[Sai Kar Lane] was admitted to Namlan hospital at around 9:00 a.m. and then he was transferred to Hsipaw hospital.”

According to the volunteer group, fighting continued in Ner Makhaw village until Tuesday evening.

“Rainy season is not so far off. People cannot work for their survival. Families are running all the time,” Ko Zaw Nyi Nyi said of the current situation in the area.

Because of the clashes, more than 1,400 people have been displaced in Namlan so far. Around 170 internally displaced people arrived at the Ner Makhaw monastery on Tuesday due to fighting near their homes. Ko Zaw Nyi Nyi said that there is a concern that they will face food shortages in the long term and difficulties once the annual rains begin in the coming months.
