Surprising as it may seem, voters could vote freely in Kayan area in Phekhon township, Karenni State, a Nyaungkon villager claimed.

“There are no soldiers standing around the polling station. Here the situation is peaceful. Troops of the Burmese Army are not hanging around the polling station,” he said.

Voters in Nyaungkon village could vote freely in the polling station located at the high school.

“We are farmers. So, we voted for the rice stalk logo (NUP party’s logo). We voted for the USDP party also because we want to work freely,” a Nyaungkon villager said.

Some people failed to vote in ward 1, 2 and 3 in Nyaungkon village-tract.

“I could not vote because I am under age and my grandmother came back because the polling station was crowded. She will go back to the polling station soon,” a girl in Phekon said.

The Kayan National Party, National Unity Party and the Union Solidarity and Development party contested the elections in the Kayan region.
