Eighty Thai Nationals Arrested in Mong Hsat Township

Police say that they had entered Burma illegally.

Burmese police arrested 80 Thai nationals this week in eastern Shan State’s Mong Hsat Township, charging them with entering the country illegally.

Among those detained were 48 men and 33 women at a resort in Nar Yawng village Local news in Chiang Mai, Thailand, reported that two ethnic Shan people were also arrested.

“This is a border area between Thailand and Burma. There are plenty of drugs in this area,” Mong Hsat local Sai Aye told SHAN.

The Thai detainees are still under investigation. It is unknown if those arrested broke any laws other than entering the country without going through the appropriate procedures.
