Nai Pike Htwe has been arrested on October 17 for allegedly hitting a traffic police officer with his unlicensed car and opening fire in Myaing Thar Yar Ward near the airport in Mawlamyine, Mon State a few days ago, Police Major Myint Win from the Mon State Police Force said.
“The culprit was arrested near No (12) Basic Education High School in Myaing Thar Yar at around 5:30 am. Four charges have been filed against him at the moment for causing injury to a public servant, hitting a person with the car on purpose, and opening fire,” said Police Major Myint Win.
Nai Pike Htwe, who held a membership card from the Mon Peace Defence Front (MPDF) which surrendered to the government, was driving an unlicensed Toyota Wish car together with his wife, Mi Aye Mon, from Mudon to Mawlamyine on October 14 when he was stopped by the traffic police at Daung Za Yat traffic light. He sped away without allowing the inspection and hit the traffic police officer’s motorcycle and fled after opening fire.
Police Corporal Myo Zaw Oo, who was shot four or five times, received a bullet graze wound on his left cheek and Maung Aye Min Khant, who was driving a motorcycle from the Mawlamyiang University, received an exist wound on his right back of the hand.
The police have seized the gun used by the culprit and four bullet shells inside a drain near the site of the shooting.
According to the Mon State Police Force, the police has seized 2,000 methamphetamine pills from the unlicensed car and arrested the woman on the car.
The Mon State Minister of Security and Border Affairs Col Win Naing Oo summoned two MPDF leaders - Nai Aik Chan and Nai Yaung – on the day of the shooting and warned them to bring Nai Pike Htwe within 24 hours.
However, the MPDF chief-of-staff Col Nai Yaung told Mawlamyine-based media that Nai Pike Htwe was not a member of his organization and he was holding a fake membership card.
