Curfew imposed in Akyab after Thapound full moon day
Rohingyas in Akyab town are facing problems after curfew was imposed from 6 pm to midnight following clashes between Buddhist devotees and security forces on March 21 on the Buddhist Thapound full moon festival.

The curfew imposed Rohingya areas are:- Nazirpara, Maulvipara (Mowlick), Amalahpara (Inbala), Katheik (Kawshaipara), Godubanga( Kondan), paluktaung ( Paltan) , Rohingya para ( Zayhaung Mawlick) among others.
"The security forces collect food and money everyday from Rohingyas after curfew was imposed," said a woman in Mowlick.
On March 21 (the Buddhist Thapound full moon festival) Buddhist devotees were going to the pagodas (Lawkanaanda, Paragyi, Aye zaydi and other monasteries. With heavy crowds of devotee, the Akyab town authority deployed security personnel around the pagodas and monasteries, said a student of Akyab University .
At Lawkanaanda pagoda, some young Buddhist devotees with flower bouquets were not allowed to enter to the pagoda by security personnel. The youth and security personnel clashed and trouble spread to the entire town. The Akyab town authorities succeeded to disperse the Buddhist devotees and sent them home forcefully at around 5 pm, he added.
On March 22, 23 and 24 more security personnel were deployed in Akyab and the town people were restricted to their house as anyone on the streets were questioned and watched, said a local in Akyab.
From March 21, the authorities deployed more security personnel in the Rohingya Muslim areas of Akyab. While the clash occurred between Buddhist and security personnel, why the authorities imposed curfew in the Rohingya Muslim areas wondered a school teacher from Kondan village of Akyab .
