Rakhine youths to protest during Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s trip to Japan

Rakhine youths will stage a protest and make six demands during the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s trip to Japan.

The  Arakan Youth Association – Japan  ’s secretary Ko Kyaw Thura Tun told Narinjara News that his association will lead the protest and it will be held in front of Myanmar embassy in Tokyo.

The six demands are – to release Rakhine public leader Dr. Aye Maung immediately, to release author Wai Hin Aung, to immediately stop filing additional charges against eight Mrauk U youths, immediately stop all restrictions against independent movement and residency of the Rakhine people inside the Union of Myanmar, to immediately clean up the sea pollution in Maday Island of Kyaukpyu Township, and to release Rakhine political prisoners.

“We are going to protest during the State Counsellor’s trip to let both the State Counsellor and the world known about the internal issues in the Rakhine State and oppression against the Rakhine people. Even though Myanmar is the democratic transition era, the Rakhine people are still being oppressed and nothing has changed,” said Ko Kyaw Thura Tun.

The protest will be held in front of Myanmar embassy in Tokyo on October 8 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm and around 50 people will join the protest.

The State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will start her six-day trip to Japan on October 5 and attend the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit in Tokyo on October 8 and 9.
