Working committee formed for official establishment of Kachin State Party

A 17-member working committee has been established last week with the aim to officially establish the new Kachin merged party and carry out future plans.

Daw Daung Nan, a lawyer and leader of the 17-member committee, told K.N.G that the working committee has been established after adding another 10 experts to the existing 17-member committee, which led in naming the new Kachin party as the ‘Kachin State Party’ and designating its flag and emblem.

“The total number is 27 after adding ten more people to 17 people. Ten people will carry out practical implementation. The working committee will lead in the establishment of the party and become a strong group that represents the public,” she said.

The working committee will lead the Kachin State Party in setting down political policies, which can represent not only the Kachin people but also non-Kachin people living in the Kachin State, and registering the party, Daw Daung Nan continued.

Under the leadership of the 17-member committee, the leaders of the four Kachin parties – the Kachin Democratic Party (KDP), the Kachin State Democracy Party (KSDP), the Kachin National Congress (KNC), and the Unity and Democracy Party of Kachin State (UDPKS) – agreed to new party’s name, flag, and emblem during the meeting held at Agape Hotel in Myitkyina, Kachin State on August 11.

The Kachin National Consultative Assembly, also known as the WMR, established the 17-member committee with political experts, officials from civil society organizations, peace advocacy group, and church leaders.
