UHM Company will give Ks 500 million for regional development when it signs a contract with the Karen (Kayin) State government to build an international shopping mall in the state’s capital Hpa-an.

“In accordance with the tender rules and regulations, we proposed how we will make a deal with the government and what we will do for other regional development. As we have proposed to provide [a fund] for regional development, we will provide Ks 500 million,” U Tun Aung Shwe, managing director of UHM Company, told KIC News on July 3.

The company will sign a contract with the state government within this month. It has been clearing the land and fencing the land as part of the pre-project activities since July 1 and construction will start in August, he continued.

Ten companies applied for the tender for the shopping mall when it was invited by the government last March and Chit Linn Myaing Group, Gamone Pwint, and UHM were initially selected on May 31.

The Karen State government announced UHM Development Co., Ltd as the winner on June 21 and the Ks 11 billion shopping mall project will be built on 3.334 acres of land in the 9th Ward at the site of an old highway bus station.

Temporary named as Zwekabin Plaza, the shopping mall will offer shops, playgrounds, cinema, restaurants, meeting hall, and offices, according to UHM Company.

This will be the first shopping mall in the Karen State and the Karen State government will use the profits gained from the shopping mall for state development, according to government officials.

UMH Company has been in charge of Shwe Hpa-si housing project and the strand road construction project in Hpa-an and Ocean shopping centers, housing projects, and other prominent projects in Mawlamyine.
