Over 40 homes have been damaged by a tornado in Myo Taung and Nan Ywar Kone villages under Toungup Township, Rakhine State.
“[The incident] took place in Myo Taung and Nan Ywar Kone. The tornado hit them. Thirty-four homes were damaged in Myo Taung. A monastery, village clinic, and a school have [also] been damaged so the total number [of damaged buildings] is 37,” said Police Corporal Zaw Zaw Tun from Ywama Police Station.
A community hall, two homes, and a well have been damaged in Nan Ywar Kone Village, according to him.
A total of 41 buildings have been damaged in the two villages.
“[The incident] took place at around 2 pm today (June 11). Some people received minor injuries. The roofs blew off in some houses and some houses collapsed. The people are staying at the homes of their nearest relatives,” he continued.
He added that around 20 firefighters led by deputy chief U Mya Than from Toungup Township Fire Station and police officers have carried out a relief operation.
