A trawler was sunk by high winds during a high tide in the bay of Bengal, and seven head of livestock, including cattle and buffaloes have been missing since August 31, sources told Kaladan Press.

The trawler carrying livestock arrived in Bangladesh from Burma at midnight, when it was battered by strong winds and high seas.

Traders from the border area said the vessel reached the main jetty at Shapuri Dip, in Bangladesh, but sunk when the animals were being unloaded.

Of the 36 head of livestock on board, 29 cattle and buffaloes were able to make it to land, but other seven cattle and buffaloes have been missing since yesterday, he added.

There are reports a dead buffalo was seen floating in the Naff River.

The owner of the cattle, whose name is Kamal, lives in Shapuri Dip,Teknaf upazila.

He said it is unfortunate the ship sunk in the river.
