The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) along with local junta authorities have closed down the National Unity and Development Party (NUDP) chairman's business ventures as part of the ongoing harassment of the party.

Sources close to the NUDP said, "USDP members with Loikaw and Deemawso authorities have closed down the NUDP chairman, Oo Seh Reh's business ventures. His family's business interests were also closed."

The NUDP, which received the approval of the Election Commission in early August will not stand back from disturbing the government backed party. "We are stepping it up," said NUDP sources.

"They (USDP) is disturbing us after it saw the party set up. They don't want any parties to contest in Karenni state, only the USDP. That's what they want," said a member of the NUDP.

Oo Mi Reh Yet Aung, secretary of the NUDP speaking to Kantarawaddy Times said, "The objectives that we formed the party with are necessary for the Karenni people in Karenni State to represent the state in the future. The idea is not to oppose other parties."

The NUDP is continually facing a series of difficulties that threaten their operations.
