A Rohingya villager was arrested by Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) on August 9, for not opening the door while Nasaka personnel were trying to open the door, said a relative of the victim preferring not to be named.
On that day, at about 1 am eight Nasaka men led by Sergeant Kyaw Kyaw Hla of the Nasaka camp No.24 under the Nasaka area No.4 of Maungdaw township went to Nasaka area No. 5 to arrest a culprit without taking any permission from the Nasaka area No. 5.
The Nasaka group went to the House of Moulvi Nurul Haque (32), son of Gura Meah, hailing from Kryat Chaung village of Lone Don village tract of Maungdaw Township and tried to open the door. But, at first, the house owner did not open the door as he thought that they were robbers. Later, he opened the door.
After entering the house, the Nasaka searched the house and did not find the culprit they wanted to arrest. Therefore, they arrested the house owner for not opening the door and was taken to their camp and detained.
This year, there were many robberies in Maungdaw Township impersonating the Nasaka, so the house owner did not open the door of his house. This is not a crime because later, knowing the presence of Nasaka, he opened the door.
Later, he was released without taking money, but his parents had to sign on a blank white paper that they received their son in good health though the arrestee was severely tortured in the camp and became senseless.
According to a close relative of the victim, today the victim with his relative have to cross the Burma- Bangladesh border for treatment in Bangladesh.
A local elder said, “For not opening the door, at about 1 pm, the authority’s torture of the arrestee is a human rights abuse against the Rohingya community.”
