A local NGO is trying to promote good governance through boosting public understanding of what can be expected from political leaders.

The Ngo, Action-Based Community Development (ABCD), has been leading workshops in Sittwe township in conjunction with the township’s departments of rural development, education and agricultural, as well as the municipal offices.

“We are holding these workshops to raise public awareness about government accountability and responsibility. Another reason is to let the public know about good management,” said Naing Htoo Kyaw, a trainer and secretary of the ABCD.

The two-day workshops are open to up to 40 participants per village. The ABCD aims to reach 280 people across all seven of Sittwe’s villages

The Scholar Institute in Yangon is also providing assistance for the trainings.
