4 August 2010: Four people died following incessant rain and landslides in southern Maulthuam village in Lunglei district, Mizoram northeast state of India. Among the dead, two were Burmese nationals.

The two Burmese have been identified as Chhawngtawnga (30) son of Halchhina and Chhanlianthanga (20) son of Chhianawla from Burma. The other two were local villagers.

The four victims were working as woodcutters in Vanlalthanga in the jungles of southern Mualthuam village. On 28 July it began raining heavily. The villagers lost track of the four people. Some villagers went to the jungle later and found the bodies under the mud heap, said the Evening Post, a Mizoram daily newspaper.

The bodies were found at 3:30 pm on 30 July. It took a lot of time as the bodies were buried under 10 feet of mud.

It is learnt that detailed information on the two Burmese victims is still being sought by Mizoram authorities. A move is afoot to identify their native place in Burma. They had been working as woodcutters for some time in Lunglei district for their livelihood.
