The National Unity Party (NUP) has kick started its election campaign in Pegu division. The party will contest in all constituencies in Burma, a Pegu local said.
"People gather at the house of party members and they explain their party's policy. They talk of inducting more party members and victory for the party in the election and nothing more," he added.
The NUP has started election campaign in 10 wards in urban areas of Pegu since mid July.
"NUP party explains its party's policy while campaigning. They said that NUP will prioritize farmers and workers issues. However, party members do not answer questions and do not listen to complaints," he said.
U Hla Myint, Pegu township organizer, and Daw Aye Aye Myint, division organizing committee member are leading the campaign in Pegu division.
Only NUP and the New Era People's party have opened party offices in Pegu, while other parties are still trying in Pegu, the local added.
"The Democracy Party led by U Thu Wai is trying to find a place for opening an office. Ko Pyo Min Thein and his party are also attempting to find a place for a party office. I heard that Aye Lwin and his party, Union of Myanmar Federation of National Politics party were busy trying to find a place for a party office in Pegu a few months ago," he said.
The NUP has opened an office in Kar Lay Gate compound (small bus station compound) in Yong Gyi ward in Pegu. The New Era People's party office is at the house of the party's secretary in Myo Thit ward, Ohn Taw 2 road in Pegu.
The NUP descended from the Burma Socialist Programme Party after the 8888 uprising.
The NUP party was the main rival of the National league for Democracy (NLD) during the 1990 election in Burma but could not compete with the NLD.
The military regime backed USDP has not put up a sign board at its office but organizers have begun poll campaign in urban and rural wards in Pegu.
"They are persuading people to vote for USDP candidates by traveling from house to house. I heard they said if people don't vote for their candidates, there will be another military coup in this country," the local said.
The junta has not announced the election date and has not permitted political parties to campaign officially.
However, political parties, which have got approval from the Election Commission, are into organizational work to have enough party members because the EC has declared political parties must send party member lists to the Commission within 90 days after approval to form a political party.
