Another journalist was wounded by gunfire during the second day of renewed clashes between Thai security forces and anti-government protesters in Bangkok on 15 May 2010, media reports said.

“The Nation” said one of its veteran photojournalists, Chaiwat Poompuang, was shot in the leg as he was covering the fighting between some 300 Red Shirt protesters and soldiers at the Din Daeng intersection.

Skirmishes between the two groups erupted anew on Thursday night as the Thai military moved to seal all approaches to the protesters’ main rally site in the Ratchaprasong area, which is part of the capital’s commercial district.

On Friday, 14 May, three other journalists were injured on Wireless Road, which runs along the eastern side of Lumpini Park. Canadian national Nelson Rand, who works for France 24 TV channel, was shot three times—in the abdomen, one of his legs and another in one of his wrists. He was rushed to Chulalongkorn Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Jo Subin, a photographer of the Thai-language newspaper, “Matichon”, sustained a gunshot wound in the thigh at the Sarasin-Wireless intersection. He was brought to Bumrungrad Hospital.

Meanwhile, a still-unidentified cameraman for Thai Voice TV Channel was also shot in the leg and was brought to Rama 9 Hospital.
