21 April 2010: In yet another instance of high handedness, junta authorities in Pinkungi village, Kalemyo have confiscated properties of villagers unable to donate to the fund for the reconstruction of the bridge in Kalemyo, Sagaing division in Burma.

Regime officials have collected Kyat 2000 to 5000 from each household to rebuild Sekyi Bridge 6 miles from northwest Kalemyo since last month. Officials seized properties of those who could not provide the money demanded.

“We are forced to donate. The authorities confiscated bicycles and sewing machines from the villagers who could not pay the money. Bicycles are essential for every family here,” said Mr. Thawnga.

“There are more than 200 bicycles and 100 sewing machines, which were seized from the villagers,” said Mr. Chhuma in the same village.

There are seven village tracts with 1800 house hold in Pinkungi, Kalemyo.

It is learnt that local people had complained repeatedly regarding the confiscation of their properties to higher authorities, but no heed was paid. –
