SSA busts Burma Army dinner party
On Valentines' day, a Shan State Army (SSA) unit attacked a Burma Army patrol while they were having a meal resulting in a 20 minute gun battle in Southern Shan State, according to the rebel bulletin.

On February 14, 2008, a four-member SSA patrol led by Second- Lieutenant Sai Pi, one of the units under Lieutenant Sai Ywe, going across the Nam Pang River from the east ran into a 50-men patrol from the Burma Army's Infantry Battalion 246 led by Captain Kyi Myint Than who were having their meal near Loi Mak Hin mountain, north of Wan Lao village, Khun Hing Township, Southern Shan State.
The Burma Army patrol was said to be visiting villages in the township to recruit a 100 strong militia. Second-Lieutenant Sai Pi and the group withdrew from the place after the clash, said the source.
There was no casualty on the SSA side but two were injured on the Burma Army side.
The SSA South, as it is popularly know, was formed following the surrender of the Mong Tai Army (MTA), led by the late Khun Sa, in 1996. It is reportedly the strongest anti-junta resistance movement.
