Schools in Mon State have been ordered to hold the final academic year examinations on 22 February the day of the 61st anniversary of Mon National Day.

A teacher teaching in middle level of Basic Education in Moulmein said that the order has come from higher authorities through the Mon State Education Department.

He claimed that this is not a coincidence. They have no choice except follow the order. The order says no school is allowed to close on Friday 22 and the primary level to grade five must have the test. The other standards will hold the exams starting on Monday 25.

Usually, primary and middle schools' academic year final exams are held after the Mon National Day.
Even though the authorities have ordered to close the school in the rest of Mon State on 22 February, students in towns and big city are not interested in Mon National Day. Only students in rural areas are actively involved in National Day activities.

Recently, Mon State authorities for the first time sent an official letter to the Central Celebrating Committee of the Mon National Day (CCCMND) that they will be allowed to celebrate the 61st of Mon National Day which to be held for the first time in Mudon Town as a state level celebration.

Mon State authorities had never replied to the letter of the CCCMND even though the committee sends the letter every year.

A committee member said CCCMND holds the celebration every year despite the military not replying letter to allow holding the Mon National Day.

CCCMND has put up over 100 MND signboards around Mon state and there is no interruption from the authorities yet, he added.

Almost every year, the authorities ban and order CCCMND and villages not to put up the signboard for the Mon National Day after they put up some.
