Taking photos and filming wasn’t allowed at polling stations in the Chin State’s capital Hakha on Election Day. Ko Thwi Dame, producer of Khonumthung TV producer in Chin State capital Hakha, said the Union Election Commission has banned it.Photography Banned At Hakha Polling Stations
“A notice saying ‘Do Not Take Photo’ has been posted at the front of the polling station. The Election Commission posted it. I don’t know if they also banned it in other towns and villages in the Chin State,” he said.
The ban has made many Hakha residents wonder why.
“I don’t know whether they are using security as a reason. This is completely the opposite of media freedom that authorities said when they held courses prior to the election,” said Ko Thwi Dame.
The Union Solidarity and Development Party; the National League for Democracy; the Chin National Democratic Party; the Chin League for Democracy; and Zomi Congress for Democracy are contesting seats in Hakha Township.
