San Maung Than — Among other election observation organizations in Arakan State, Wun Latt Foundation will prioritize constituencies where there are many independent candidates and areas where potential conflict could break out.
“There may be complications in Sittwe Township Constituency No 2. There are independent candidates and also other ethnic parties. With complications, conflicts may happen. Even from the start there have been conflicts between MPs. That’s why we will observe it with caution,” said Khine Kaung San, director of Wun Latt Foundation.
Wun Latt Foundation will observe 50 of the 60 polling stations in Sittwe Township Constituency No 2.
“There are complicated areas in Ponnagyun Township such as Poe Yi Pyin area. There are many independent candidates. We will pay special attention to the observation of Ponnagyun Township’s Constituency No 1. We will also watch Mrauk U Township where many independent candidates are running,” said Khine Kaung San.
He said members of Wun Latt Foundation have personally witnessed incidents involving bribery during election campaigning.
“A major party was rally to community leaders promising to build a school for them if they vote for their party,” he explained.
Eighty-seven observers from the Wun Latt Foundation will observe 200 of 2,400 polling stations in the Arakan State.
