A number of middle aged and elderly people have set up a new social group called ‘Rual U’ in Thantlang town, Chin state, western Burma.
The group was initially established by 72 people in Thantlang town on August 23 to help others in need and to work for peace and development in the town.
“Now there are 72 members ranging from government employees, retired people, civilians and religious leaders. There are 23 central committee members. Each member has to contribute Kyat 3000 for needy people,” said a central committee member.
The group was established with the permission of the Chairman, Thantlang Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) and it will be extended to remote villages to do social work.
“We will expand our association to do more work. Now we are planning to construct bus stops and public toilets in the heart of Thantlang town. We want to solve the problems of the public as far as we can,” he added.
Similarly, the Rual U association was set up in Hakha and Rangoon city early this year. It will now be established in other parts of Chin state.
