The Karen National Union (KNU) executive committee issued a letter of condolence on the passing of His Majesty the King of Thailand.
The Karen National Union said it its letter that it was “deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. On this sad occasion, the Karen National Union would like to express its deepest condolences to all members of the Royal Family, the government and the people of Thailand.”
The KNU praised the work of the King and said that “His Majesty was a remarkable King, who dedicated his entire life to the betterment of the country and the people of Thailand, and the wellbeing of the hill tribes without discrimination as to their status, ethnicity or religious persuasion.”
The KNU said that His Majesty had brought “peace and prosperity to the people of Thailand, His Majesty had devoted his life and worked tirelessly for improvement of life of the common people. There is no doubt that His Majesty’s wisdom and devotion were an enduring source of strength and comfort for the people in the Kingdom.”
The KNU paid tribute and offered thanks for “His Majesty’s wise leadership and graciousness will be remembered by the KNU forever, especially with regard to the fact that thousands of innocent Karen, Karenni and Mon peoples are still able to find refuge and security, and over a million migrant workers from Burma have been able to find decent work and care in Thailand.”
