Arakanese have called on the immediate release of Arakan political prisoners including Khaing Myo Tun from the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) by staging a protest in front of the Burmese embassy in Tokyo on 3 August.

The protest was organized by Arakan Youth Organization (Japan).

2016 08 07 09 05 03 New notification“Ceasefire has not been signed with AA (Arakan Army) yet. We need to consider the arrest of Khaing Myo Tun from the ALP, which has signed the ceasefire. The situation seems to have worsened after the democratic transition. Due to this situation, it is questionable whether Panglong [Conference] is a deception.  The arrest of Khaing Myo Tun, who revealed the truth during the administration of a democratic government, is against democracy so we demand for his release,” said Ko Thaw Zin Phyo.

Around 30 Arakan youths took part in the protest and called on the end of the civil war, the release of Khaing Myo Tun from the ALP and Arakan political prisoners, clear-cut implementation of the 1982 Burma Citizen Law, immediate suspension of the plan to give citizenship to illegal Bengalis, and allow the existence of Ma Ba Tha (Patriotic Association of Myanmar) and Burmese patriot associations.
