In Hpakant, Kachin State, Burma, the world's best jade mine, the flood destroyed the main bridge connected between Lawnghkang-Hpakant on Uru Hka river. At least (5) people killed in the bridge crash. A 10-ton truck, a big truck, 3 motorcycles and 3 people crossing the bridge were swept away by the flood. Now, people can travel between Lawnghkang-Hpakant by only ferries, boats and old suspended Mashi Kahtawng bridge. Flood hits Hpakant every year in rainy season. Flood is created by man-made huge heaps of soil extracted from the jade mines dumping along Uru Hka river and around land mines. Jade mining methods have been changed from by hands to sophisticated machines, as soon as Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) signed a ceasefire agreement with Burmese military junta. Every year, Regime earns 3rd largest foreign revenue from gem sale. However, it does not build proper roads and bridges Hpakant township.
