New Delhi (Mizzima) – The Rangoon Divisional Court on Friday heard arguments from lawyers of Aung San Suu Kyi urging the Court to reinstate three defense witnesses previously ruled inadmissible, fixing a date of June 9th for their decision on the matter.

The Divisional Court previously accepted a request by Aung San Suu Kyi’s lawyers to review the dismissal of three defense witnesses barred to testify by a lower court. But after lawyers from both sides today submitted their arguments, the court announced the issue would remain undecided until Tuesday, June 9th.

If the Divisional Court accepts the reinstatement of the witnesses, the court sitting in Insein Prison will proceed to take their testimony – after which final arguments will be heard and a verdict announced.

According to sources, at least one witness will be allowed to testify.

Earlier in the day, Rangoon’s Northern District Court inside Insein Prison adjourned the trial of Aung San Suu Kyi to June 12th.

The Nobel Peace Laureate and three others, including Yettaw, the American who sneaked into her home in early May, are currently being tried in Insein Prison, but the case is temporarily on hold as the matter of the defense witnesses is settled.

Win Tin, a member of the Central Executive Committee of the NLD and one of the three defense witnesses thus far denied testimony, said he believes the trial is likely to be prolonged even further, with a decision on the case possibly taking longer to reach than initially predicted.
