The municipality in Hakha city, Chin state western Burma , has been constructing and extending city roads using drilling machines. But in the process it has been trespassing on the property of land owners.
A report said that reconstruction of the New Market Road was started on March 4 led by Mr. Ta Muang, Chairman of the municipality. They started without providing any information using road digging machines. The land owners are frustrated because of the way the civic body is taking over private land areas.
“There is no fixed decision as to how many feet the road is to be extended. They are doing as much as they want. They have extended the road up to my house’s pole! My vehicle cannot get in or out now,” said Mr. Van Lian, Hakha NLD’s Chairman.
With such road extension it has led to underwater pipes breaking and local people are facing water shortage.
“Though they keep saying it is for the development of the city, but it has led to disappointment for the people because they are doing whatever they want to,” he added.
In fact, the road extension and construction work has not started in other blocks and work on the New Market block road also stopped due to machine failure.
In February the Roman Catholic Church in Kalemyo proposed to construct the link bridge called SeCi in Kalemyo and Let Pan Chaung village, but the municipal group rejected the proposal annoying people.
