Maungdaw, Arakan State: World Food program (WFP) has been repairing roads in Maungdaw Township since last week with the cooperation of villagers. This is the program of ‘food for work’ of WFP, said a village elder on condition of anonymity.
As an initial stage, the WFP members have been repairing road of Zagar Pin village of Bawli Bazar village tract of Maungdaw Township which is 4, 310 meters long. It has been using about 340 laborers from nearby villagers and they are paid rice as daily wages.
The WFP authorities will use 50 MT of rice for repairing the road of Sanka Pyin village road. This road will be completed within next 4 days. The road is in the Nasaka area No. 4 of Maungdaw Township, according to a local trader.
The WFP will more repair the roads such as--- the Myo Mi Chaung village road which is 3,000 meter long, the Shil Khali (Kyauk Chaung) village road, the Kurkhali (Lake Ya) village road and the Kyun Khong village road--- of Maungdaw Township.
By the project of WFP, the poor villagers get works and able to support to their family members. So, the poor villagers give many thanks to the WFP members, according to villagers.
