The Jandeland Myanmar Co. Ltd., the largest Kachin company in Burma, laid off 71 workers of over 800 workers in December, 2008. Worse the workers who remain in the company are yet to receive salaries due for several months, said company sources.
Workers in fisheries department of the Jandeland Myanmar Co. Ltd. in Hukawng (Hugawng) valley in Burma's northern Kachin state are having to contend with a salary backlog of eight months, said workers.
Moreover, workers in the company's rubber plantation and mechanical departments in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin state have not received their salaries since October, 2008, said sources close to them.
The Jandeland Myanmar Co. Ltd. is located in Myitkyina and its main businesses ventures are jade, logging, fisheries and road construction in Kachin state. The company is owned by Kachin jade tycoon Sutdu Yup Zau Hkawng.

Due to declining sales of Kachin state's main products like jade, timber and gold in the domestic markets, neighbouring China and abroad in the aftermath of the impact of the current world economic meltdown, both businessmen and people in Kachin state are suffering financial crisis.
